Glasgow University Mountaineering Club Funding Success

EDM number 328 in 2017-19, proposed by Patrick Grady on 14/09/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Leisure and Sports.

That this House congratulates the Glasgow University Mountaineering Club (GUMC) in securing £2,000 National Lottery Awards for All Scotland funding to expand its activities into the rewarding, but challenging and expensive sport of ski-mountaineering; notes GUMC's mission is to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to experience Scotland's beautiful landscapes through outdoor sports and fortnightly expeditions; further notes GUMC prides itself on being open to any student or staff member at the University of Glasgow and acts as an access point to the wider mountaineering community, be it through hill-walking, rock climbing, skiing, ice climbing, or anything else that can be done in the mountains; draws attention to the physical, mental and emotional health benefits of these activities; hopes GUMC's funding allows it to further expand the access it provides to outdoor sports; encourages staff and students of the University of Glasgow to consider joining the club; and looks forward to hearing about its future successes.
