EDM number 65 in 2017-19, proposed by Stephen Gethins on 27/06/2017.
Categorised under the topic of Cultural heritage.

That this House notes the 500th anniversary of Auchtermuchty being made a Royal Burgh by the publication of a Royal Charter on 25 May 1517 by King James V of Scotland; further notes the Royal Charter gave the town the right to hold fairs and markets; notes the town's proud industrial heritage of linen works and metal casting; is impressed by the contribution to the arts by Auchtermuchty, including providing inspiration for the Scots poem The wife of Auchtermuchty and being the home town of Charlie and Craig Reid of The Proclaimers; commends the members of the Muchty 500 group that, alongside the Auchtermuchty Community Association, organised community-based celebrations; and looks forward to the next 500 years of history in Auchtermuchty.
