Future Of Adult Education
Matthew Taylor
1991-06-10
That this House deplores the implications for the Adult Education Service of the Government's White Paper on Further Education; condemns the fact that the funding councils will only support vocationally-orientated courses; believes that the result will be that non-vocational courses will suffer cutbacks as local education authorities are not in a position to fund them because of the effects of the poll tax; notes the value of adult education for its social benefits and contribution to the quality of life of individuals and the community; believes that the opportunities to learn for many people, in particular women, the elderly and those on low incomes, will be significantly reduced; and calls on the Government to recognise the damage its proposals will inflict and to reconsider them before introducing legislation.
