3874 1991-92 846 David Clelland 1992-03-10 That this House congratulates the Association of Councillors on the effective lobby of Parliament on Tuesday 3rd March; notes the attendance at the meeting held in the House of councillors from all political parties and all tiers of local government; supports the Association in its efforts to draw attention to the anomalies and complications involved in the systems of remuneration and working practices of local elected representatives in the United Kingdom; recognises the difficulties faced by many councillors and the damaging effect of years of neglecting those difficulties on our system of local democracy; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to urgently address these issues and to recognise the Association of Councillors as an appropriate body to be involved in all consultations on these and other local government matters.
