Ira Extradition Orders
Harry Barnes
1994-02-22
That this House unreservedly condemns the Provisional IRA for its illegal and inhumane banishment for two years, under threat at 24 hours' notice of lethal force, of six people from Newry; notes that those ordered to leave include Cherry Treanor, who has been forced to leave behind her chronically ill two-year old son who suffers from asthma and eczema and whose lungs have to be inflated by a ventilator three times a day; further notes that those banished include Cherry Treanor's two brothers who had been involved in a robbery for which they were given suspended sentences by Banbridge court where they were entitled to representation and appeal rights in stark contrast to the methods of Sinn Fein/IRA; entirely endorses the comments of the human rights group, Families against Intimidation and Terror that, with the backing of less than 5 per cent. of the people of Ireland as a whole, Sinn Fein have no political or moral mandate to exclude Irish men and women; and calls upon Sinn Fein President, Gerry Adams, to use his influence with those responsible to overturn this illegitimate extradition order and to cease this barbaric practice altogether.
