Increased Tax Receipts
Alan Simpson
1995-10-31
That this House notes that the Board of Inland Revenue annual report for the year ended 31st March 1995 shows that the Inland Revenue raised ú6.1 billion from investigation, audit and review work for the year to 31st March 1995 and that this is equivalent to a yield from 3.5 pence on the basic rate of income tax and that Inland Revenue net tax receipts in 1994-95 were 12.5 per cent. higher than in 1993-94; and believes that such additions to revenue should be spent on improvements in health, education, housing, generation of employment opportunities and other socially desirable projects rather than for tax cuts to benefit the better-off as a bribe in the run up to the General Election.
