EDM618 - Barnett Formula

That this House calls for a review of the 22 year-old Barnett Formula under which Scotland has a huge funding advantage over the North East of England;notes that spending per head on education in Scotland is ú863 and in the North East ú686, health and social services spending is ú1,271 and in the North East ú1,090, transport spending is ú180 to the North East's ú133, industry spending is ú171 to the North East's ú119 and tourist industry spending per head is ú5.85p to the North East's 16p; further notes that the Barnett Formula gives Scotland ú5,271 per head and the North East ú4,837; and calls on the Government to tackle the ú1billion divide between spending in Scotland and spending in the North East of England.
