Riots In India
Barry Gardiner
2002-03-06
That this House expresses its profound sympathy for the families and victims, both Hindu and Muslim, of the riots in Gujarat; welcomes the Chief Minister's decision to set up a judicial inquiry into the attack on the train carrying the Ram Sevaks at Godhra; urges him to set up a parallel inquiry into the initial failure of police in Ahemadabad to protect Muslim families under attack; welcomes also the efforts that state and national governments have taken to reduce tensions in the area; and urges all concerned to promote and uphold the traditions of secularism and tolerance that are contained in India's constitution.
