<title>Mr Matthew Kelly</title>
<proposer id="10416">Paul Marsden</proposer>
<date>2003-02-24</date>
<text>That this House welcomes the complete exoneration of Matthew Kelly, actor and television presenter who was investigated by police for sexual abuse; defends the freedom of the press, but notes the appalling and prejudicial reporting by some national newspapers that held a trial by media even though no charges were brought against Mr Kelly; notes with concern that Mr Kelly was originally arrested by police publicly outside a theatre when he could have been contacted in private; and calls upon the Government to consider ways to protect the anonymity of those investigated until formally charged with an offence.</text>
