ALZHEIMER'S AWARENESS WEEK

EDM number 1518 in 2002-03, proposed by Paul Marsden on 02/07/2003.

That this House supports Alzheimer's Awareness Week, 6th to 12th entitled, Mind your Head; notes that research has shown a link between a healthy heart and a healthy mind which shows that good cardiovascular health might help to reduce the risk of developing dementia; notes that 700,000 people in the United Kingdom suffer from dementia that affects one in 20 people over the age of 65; applauds the work of the Alzheimer's Society with its 1,000 staff in 250 branches around the country who provide much needed support and care to sufferers of dementia; further notes the Alzheimer's Society's concern that in some areas access to anticholinesterase inhibitors used to treat sufferers is restricted on the NHS; and calls on the Government to increase support for patients and relatives.

This motion has been signed by a total of 80 MPs.
