Energy Markets, Carbon Reduction And Warm Homes

EDM number 1889 in 2006-07, proposed by Linda Riordan on 11/07/2007.

That this House welcomes the presentation of the Energy Markets, Carbon Reduction and Warm Homes Bill on 26th June 2007; and urges the Government to support the Bill and to restructure the existing energy supply market to create a low carbon energy services market, to amend the duties of the energy markets regulatory body, Ofgem, to reduce household consumption through the promotion of energy service companies and via the removal of existing restrictions to the size of local distribution networks, to introduce incentives via preferential feed-in tariffs for power produced by low or zero carbon sources of fuel, to ensure that throughout the transformation to a low carbon economy the poorest households are protected via social tariffs and to require local authorities to draw up plans to meet or exceed Government targets on climate change and fuel poverty.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
