Tate Galleries

EDM number 2084 in 2006-07, proposed by Jeremy Hunt on 10/10/2007.

That this House congratulates Tate on achieving its highest ever attendance figures of 7.7 million visits to the four Tate galleries; notes the wide range of exhibitions and displays including Holbein and Hogarth at Tate Britain, Gilbert and George at Tate Modern, Art Now at Tate St Ives and The Real Thing at Tate Liverpool; further congratulates Tate on the acquisition of over 300 works of art in the past year including Turner's Blue Rigi; recognises that Tate Modern has transformed the cultural landscape of London and the UK since opening; and looks forward to the 60 per cent. expansion of the gallery with the addition of the new Herzog and de Meuron building to the south of the present site, creating the world's premier contemporary art space.
