London Fashion Week
Richard Younger-Ross
2008-10-06
That this House notes the Model Health Inquiry's Report in March 2007 containing 14 recommendations for the British Fashion Council on ways of improving the conditions of models employed on the catwalks of London Fashion Week in response to public concerns for the health of models following the death of two models; acknowledges the work of the British Fashion Council to introduce a ban on models under 16 years of age at London Fashion Week and to establish the various health and awareness initiatives as recommended by the Model Health Inquiry, but expresses concern about the British Fashion Council's refusal to introduce key recommendations requiring all models working at London Fashion Week to provide medical certification attesting to their good health from doctors with expertise in recognising eating disorders and its failure to ensure that backstage environments are demonstrably drug-free in refusing to introduce random drug testing; believes that there is a real need to change the industry's stick-thin zero-size culture; and calls on the British Fashion Council to reconsider its decision and implement the aforementioned recommendations to ensure the good health of all models.
