Anniversary Of British Fish And Chips
Lindsay Hoyle
2010-02-23
That this House marks the 150th anniversary of the marriage between fish and chips; celebrates with pride the culinary institution that the dish has become; notes the importance of fish and chips as the staple fare of the industrial north in the 19th century; further notes the battle to claim the invention of the classic dish by both the North and South as a result of the fondness felt by the country as a whole; notes that presently the UK is home to almost 11,500 fish and chip shops, demonstrating that the dish is at the heart of British culture; and hopes that the classic dish of British fish and chips will be celebrated in decades to come.
