West Northamptonshire Development Corporation Initiative On Construction Skills

EDM number 1032 in 2009-10, proposed by Tim Boswell on 08/03/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Construction industry, Employment and Training.

That this House is concerned that more should be done now to address skills in the construction industry in readiness for the upturn, as part of concerted action to tackle the general lack of employment and skills training opportunities for young people during this recession; welcomes the Construction Futures initiative developed by the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation and launched in Daventry which addresses both issues at once - linking, for the first time in the UK, local employment and skills training directly to the projects to be built and making use of the section 106 agreement to require developers to agree to undertake on-site training for a fixed number of trainees during the construction of the project, in conjunction with the local college; and calls on the Government to recognise the innovation being demonstrated and to encourage this integrated approach to be adopted across the country.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
