Improving Outcomes: A Strategy For Cancer
Annette Brooke
2012-02-28
That this House notes that the UK is fortunate to have national cervical screening and HPV vaccination programmes; welcomes the continued focus on preventing ill health, the document Improving Outcomes: A Strategy for Cancer and the commitment to improving screening uptake, but further notes that during the last year research by Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust has revealed that there remain many obstacles that prevent women from presenting for cervival screening, including inflexible appointment times, unsympathetic employers, a lack of understanding among women over 50 years that they need to accept their invitation for screening and issues about relevance of screening amongst Black and minority ethnic communities; congratulates the work of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust; and supports its call that everything possible should be done to support targeted campaigns to overcome the barriers to uptake and ensure that women from all backgrounds and of all appropriate ages attend for screening when offered the opportunity to do so.
