2016-06-28
That this House commemorates the centenary of the Battle of the Somme which began in 1 July 1916 and lasted until 18 November 1916; solemnly remembers the 58,000 British and Commonwealth casualties suffered on the first day and the subsequent 420,000 British, 200,000 French and 500,000 German casualties; recognises the grave sacrifice made by those service personnel which will never be forgotten; and pays respect to all those who served our nation in the First World War.
