40th Anniversary Of The Maryhill Community Central Halls
Patrick Grady
2017-10-11
That this House congratulates Maryhill Community Central Halls (CCH) on its 40th anniversary; notes the CCH is an award winning development trust based in the Maryhill area of Glasgow which serves the wider north west of the city through its social enterprises which operate professional print and graphic design, pre-school nursery, after school care, external homecare catering and minibus transport services as well as providing the community with a café and conference, meeting and function spaces; further notes that CCH was established in 1976 following a local community campaign to secure the continued use of the Methodist Central Hall, thanks to which Strathclyde Regional Council bought the building in 1977 for community use and handed over day-to-day management to the community development trust; is pleased to hear that the anniversary was celebrated at a special event in the Halls, attended by Lord Provost of Glasgow Eva Bolander, on 15 September 2017 which reunited some of the key figures from the history of the Hall including John Gray, former Strathclyde Regional Councillor who secured the building for community use in 1977; thanks everyone from the Maryhill CCH Team, its supporters and all of those who have contributed to the organisation's current success; and looks forward to to many years of future success for Maryhill CCH.
