Hospital Car Parking Charges And Brain Injury Patients
Robert Halfon
2018-04-26
That this House notes that patients admitted to hospital suffering from brain injury often require extended hospital stays; further notes that such patients and their families are therefore subject to excessive car parking charges at NHS hospitals in England; notes that Government Guidance entitled NHS patient, visitor and staff car parking principles suggests that concessions should be made available to visitors and relatives who have an extended stay in hospital; applauds the NHS hospitals in England that do offer parking concessions for long-term patients; is disappointed that a huge number of NHS hospitals in England have not followed the Government's Guidance; is shocked to learn from Headway, the charity for people with brain injury, that a woman whose husband was diagnosed with brain tumour was not made aware of the concessions available; regrets to hear that she consequently paid over £10 a day for parking for the first 12 days of her husband's stay; denounces the inadequate information provided by these hospitals; and urges the Government to abolish hospital car parking charges altogether.
