Brendan O'Hara
2018-05-23
That this House congratulates Betty Macintyre from Oban in Argyll on being awarded Hero Nurse of the Year at the 2018 NHS Heroes Awards for her services to Midwifery in the Western Highlands of Scotland; acknowledges the outstanding contribution made by Betty, who, over the last 50 years has delivered hundreds of babies, some in the most remote parts of Scotland and many in the most extreme circumstances, including on a lifeboat, in a horse-box, on a pier, aboard a car ferry and even in a helicopter; notes that Betty, who is specially trained in emergency obstetrics and life-saving, has continually been in the forefront of adopting modern technology, techniques and equipment, including establishing virtual breastfeeding advice clinics in some of our remotest highland and island communities; sincerely thanks Betty for her outstanding contribution to midwifery and to the overall wellbeing of the communities of the Scottish Western Highlands; and wishes her a long and happy retirement.
