Gavin Newlands
2018-06-07
That this House congratulates Renfrewshire Council and the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association on the successful British Pipe Band Championships held in St James Playing Fields on 19 May for the third year in a row; notes that more than 130 of the world's best pipe bands competed in the first of the summer's major piping events, with over 4,000 pipers and drummers from across the UK, Ireland and as far away as Denmark taking part; commends the great result for Renfrewshire Schools Pipe Band taking part in its first major championship, placing third in its grade; and further notes that the championships will return to Paisley for another three years from 2019 to 2021 as part of the expanded programme of events planned via the legacy of Paisley's UK City of Culture 2021 bid.
