Demolition Of Council Owned Properties In Liverpool

EDM number 1033 in 1989-90, proposed by David Alton on 21/05/1990.

That this House notes that in the past 10 years Liverpool City Council has demolished 12,056 properties built and owned by them; notes that the outstanding debt charges on these now demolished properties is ú23,973,575, and that a further 3,195 properties in their ownership have also been identified for demolition, with outstanding debts totalling ú8,479,724; believes that many of these houses, some less than 15 years old, should have been saved and given away to families prepared to renovate and improve them; believes that a policy so reliant on demolition is lacking in imagination and is financially irresponsible; and suggests that as a way out of reducing Liverpool City Council's current outstanding debt of ú772,526,000 local and central government should immediately reconsider this policy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
