Swindon Town Football Club And The Football League

EDM number 1169 in 1989-90, proposed by Simon Coombs on 25/06/1990.

That this House congratulates Swindon Town Football Club on gaining promotion to the First Division of the Football League for the first time in its 109 year history; notes the exemplary behaviour of its supporters throughout the past season and particularly at the second division play-off final at Wembley on 28th May; recognises that the whole community in Swindon is proud of this achievement; regrets that the Football League has chosen to impose a punishment of demotion by two divisions in respect of charges of financial irregularity which are the subject of impending legal action, and which involve individuals no longer with the club; and believes that natural justice is better served by punishment of individuals than by indiscriminate attacks on a club, its supporters and the wider community, none of whom condone law-breaking.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
