Salary Rise Of British Steel Chairman

EDM number 1214 in 1989-90, proposed by Jim Sillars on 02/07/1990.

That this House expresses its disgust at the 79 per cent. salary rise awarded by British Steel plc to its Chairman, Sir Robert Scholey, in 1989-90, taking his salary to ú308,000; believes, in view of Black Bob Scholey's determination to destroy the Scottish steel industry, that he must be the best rewarded butcher of Scotland's future since the Duke of Cumberland; and demands that the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and the Secretary of State for Scotland make the strongest possible representations to the Board of British Steel at this huge increase which is a grotesque insult to the families of Scots steelworkers whose jobs are under threat.
