Comprehensive School Closure Policy In Wandsworth;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 1283A1 in 1989-90, proposed by John Bowis on 18/07/1990.

Leave out from 'House' to end and add 'congratulates Wandsworth Borough Council on their imaginative proposals to rescue the local education service from the depths to which it had sunk under the Labour ILEA, with 46 per cent. of parents declining to send their children to local authority schools; welcomes the choice within the new Conservative system of comprehensive, magnet, city technology colleges, voluntary aided city technology colleges and voluntary aided secondary schools; recognises that the closure of three undersubscribed schools will remove from the shoulders of community charge payers the need to pay for 4,000 empty places; believes the proposals are in the best interests of the children of Wandsworth; and invites the honourable Member for Tooting to repeat his slur against the chairman of Wandsworth's Education Committee outside this House.'.

This is a ammendment to 1283.
