Conduct Of The Hon. Members For Tayside North And Stirling In Supporting The Rt. Hon. Member For Cirencester And Tewkesbury

EDM number 1303 in 1989-90, proposed by Alex Salmond on 18/07/1990.

That this House notes the continuing civil war in the Scottish Tory Party; agrees with Brian Meek, in the Glasgow Herald of 16th July, the Vice-President of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Association, that his Tory colleague, the honourable Member of Tayside North's comment that the economic power of Japan and the economic power of a united Germany will achieve today what Hitler and Tojo were unable to achieve through tanks is almost more offensive than the Ridley originals and should have earned him his P45 from his party post; further notes the honourable Member for Stirling's defence of the now former Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, even although he has remained noticeably loathe to defend the Scottish Secretary, during his numerous difficulties; calls on the Prime Minister to explain how the Vice Chairman of the Tories in Scotland can remain in office whilst voicing the same views as his former colleague; demands from the junior Scottish Office Minister, the sole Government Minister to publicly support the Right honourable Member for Cirencester and Tewkesbury's position, an explanation of whether he shares in full or in part the xenophobia he expressed; and calls for Scotland to be represented as an independent member state in the European Community by elected representatives with an internationalist outlook.

This motion has been signed by a total of 2 MPs.
