Educational Psychology Service
EDM number 1330 in 1989-90, proposed by Gerry Steinberg on 23/07/1990.
That this House welcomes the authoritative report of Her Majesty's Inspectorate on educational psychology services in England which is a clear statement indicating the good, perceptive and sensitive work done by educational psychologists and the trust and confidence that exists between psychologists and those with whom they work; believes the extent of this work deserves wider recognition; notes however, with concern that there are serious staff shortages within the establishments for psychological services and the consequent limitations which are placed upon the work which can be done; and therefore calls upon the Government, during the introduction of local management of schools to ensure that local education authorities are obliged to fund an effective and appropriate educational psychology service to the schools within their jurisdiction, by the allocation of the necessary resources to local education authorities.
