Deemed Planning Consent And Devon County Council

That this House welcomes the fifth report from the Select Committee on the Environment which condemned the abuse of deemed planning consent procedures to serve an authority's financial self-interest; notes with concern the current attempt by Devon County Council to exploit this procedure to secure permission for housing development within a Torbay Borough Council conservation area covering Isambard Kingdom Brunel's former estate; believes that this constitutes a serious abuse of the planning system; and urges the Secretary of State for the Environment to call in Devon County Council application number 90.0539.R4D forthwith.
