Self-Governing Opt Out Proposals For Bradford Hospitals

EDM number 1347 in 1989-90, proposed by Bob Cryer on 24/07/1990.

That this House condemns the proposal for an opting out self-governing trust for Bradford Royal Infirmary, St. Lukes Hospital, Woodlands Orthopaedic Hospital and Brierley Hall Hospital; notes that there are no discernible advantages for National Health Service patients but that staff will have new conditions imposed, the trust will have a majority appointed by the Government and non-executive directors, that care for the ill will be replaced by a market where people are treated like cabbages and that the unprincipled group of Conservative supporters who are authors of the so-called prospectus are the enemy within the National Health Service; and calls upon protesters to write either to their honourable Members to oppose the proposal or directly to the regional health authority in Harrogate.
