Payment Of Copyright Fees In Electricity Privatisation Advertising Campaign

EDM number 1476 in 1989-90, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 30/10/1990.

That this House views with concern the payments made by the Government's electricity privatisation flotation team to MCA Merchandising for the right to use the character of Frank N. Stein in the television advertising campaign, because of his similarity with Herman Munster in The Munsters, himself having equal similarity to the character of the monster in Mary Bysshe Shelley's Dr Frankenstein oeuvres; condemns the readiness of the Government and its advisers to respond to a classic 'sting' with instant supplies of money; and requests the Government's team to take proper professional advice in future from qualified copyright lawyers before falling victim again to aggressive demands for licence fees from Hollywood hustlers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
