Garrett Hall Planning Inquiry

EDM number 154 in 1989-90, proposed by Terry Lewis on 05/12/1989.

That this House recognises the importance as a farming unit of the Garrett Hall Farm, Tyldesley, Greater Manchester; notes that its champion herd of Ayrshire cattle is acknowledged to be one of the top three such herds in the United Kingdom; is, therefore, dismayed that the Department of Environment inspector at the public inquiry into a planning application for the site has indicated his unwillingness to consider the agricultural aspects, without the benefit of evidence from the farmer concerned; further notes that such evidence is unlikely to be given, when the landowner and prospective developer, Peel Holdings Ltd, of Worsley, Manchester, is reputed to be engaging in tactics aimed at discouraging such evidence being presented; and accordingly calls upon the Secretary of State for the Environment to take serious note of this potential corruption of the planning system and halt the inquiry forthwith to allow for consideration of this serious matter.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
