Decision Of Stipendiary Magistrate Roger Davies

EDM number 188 in 1989-90, proposed by Roland Boyes on 12/12/1989.

That this House condemns the decision of Stipendiary Magistrate Roger Davies for not sentencing Mr Alan McDonald of Richmond to a jail sentence for being found guilty of a fourth drink driving offence; notes Mr McDonald drives a ú60,000 Ferrari and earns in excess of ú50, 000; does not condone the behaviour of dinner lady Susan Parker who was driving over the limit but notes that she was jailed for two weeks; condemns the attitude of some judges and magistrates who clearly have one law for the rich and another for the poor; and calls upon the Lord Chancellor to investigate the sentence on Alan McDonald.

This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
