Welfare Milk Tokens

EDM number 272 in 1989-90, proposed by Paul Flynn on 10/01/1990.

That this House condemns the inept and damaging decision to reduce the redemption value of welfare milk tokens; is convinced that this autocratic cut will put in jeopardy a beneficial nutritional service to handicapped children, vulnerable nursing and pregnant mothers and their children; believes that it unfairly slashes the precarious income of milkmen and the milk industry and is based on a failure to appreciate the value of milkmen in collecting and redeeming the tokens; believes this is an additional threat to the continuing viability of Britain's unique daily doorstep milk delivery; and calls on the Government to reconsider this outrageous, penny-pinching cut that has greatly angered milkmen and milk producers because it attempts to shift a government responsibility onto milkmen and milk consumers.
