Local Inquiry Into $1 Million Lafferty Contract In Renfrew District Council

EDM number 43 in 1989-90, proposed by Jim Sillars on 22/11/1989.

That this House deplores Renfrew District Council Labour Group's attempt to suppress a report into the ú1 million Lafferty contract scandal where payment was made for work never done; notes that Labour Group Leader Gordon McMaster has gone back on his word as stated in the Paisley Daily Express of 6th October 1988 that the people 'have a right to know everything about it'; congratulates the Evening Times for its leader of 17th November calling for an end to a cover-up; acknowledges the role of the SNP and its group leader Jim Mitchell in asserting the rights and duties of elected representatives to have all the facts placed before them; and calls on the Secretary of State to exercise his powers under section 211 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 and institute a local enquiry.
