Sale Of Public Open Space By Liverpool City Council

EDM number 486 in 1989-90, proposed by David Alton on 08/02/1990.

That this House deplores the ill-considered decision of Liverpool City Council to sell off more than seven acres of open space on the edge of Sefton Park, Liverpool; believes this to be an act of civic vandalism which shows no concern for environmental considerations or the wishes of the public who have long enjoyed the city's open spaces; believes that local authorities have a duty to put the people's interests before those of property developers; and especially condemns the decision when it places it in context of acres of developable derelict land available in the City of Liverpool and in the context of the destruction of irreplaceable meadowland, parkland and open space, including 97 per cent. of British wildflower meadows.
