Telephonic Interactive Games, British Telecom Plc And The Director General Of Telecommunications

EDM number 585 in 1989-90, proposed by Terry Lewis on 20/02/1990.

That this House utterly condemns telephone interactive games known as trivial pursuits; draws attention to the fact that such are structured so as to encourage callers to prolong the duration of each call; notes that this is usually achieved by including dubious interference in the programme in order to prevent callers reaching a prizewinning position; recognises this to be a serious confidence trick on customers of British Telecom plc; and urges, therefore, the Director General of Telecommunications British Telecom plc to ensure that the ineffective supervisory committee enforces its own code of practice in these cases, specifically 1.2(j) which purports to forbid the prolonging or delaying of services unnecessarily.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
