Compensation For The Residents Of Torbay

EDM number 602 in 1989-90, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 22/02/1990.

That this House notes that Torquay United Association Football Club attracts over 2,200 spectators to every home match and their recent fixture with Southend United was brought forward at the request of the police to avoid any clash with the Young Conservatives Annual Conference in Torbay, and that less than 1,500 people attended the conference at the expense of over 2,200 local people who were denied their Saturday afternoon's entertainment; further notes that Torquay United Association Football Club have to compensate ratepayers for the costs of policing their ground on match days; and therefore calls upon the Conservative Party to compensate in full the residents of Torbay who will have to pay for the substantial costs of policing the Young Conservative Conference.

This motion has been signed by a total of 3 MPs.
