Scottish Labour Party's and Government Figures on Local Government Finance

EDM number 640 in 1989-90, proposed by Ray Michie on 01/03/1990.

That this House notes that the honourable Member for Dagenham refused to explain on BBC's Newsnight, how much the Labour Party's alternative to the community charge would add to the basic rate of income tax on the understandable grounds that it was impossible to say what the circumstances would be if the alternative was implemented; further notes that the Scottish Labour Party unquestionably accepted figures supplied to them by Her Majesty's Government purporting to be the cost of a local income tax; believes that the Scottish Labour Party are the only people in Great Britain to accept Government figures on local government finance; and wonders whether the Scottish Labour Party will ensure that they supply equally accurate figures for the use of their English colleagues.
