Declaration Of Lithuanian Independence

EDM number 699 in 1989-90, proposed by Dafydd Elis Thomas on 13/03/1990.

That this House welcomes the declaration of independence by the Parliament of Lithuania; urges President Gorbachev to accept the right of nations currently within the Soviet Union to claim full self-determination; calls on nation states within Western Europe and the European Community to extend practical support to the people and Government of Lithuania in their struggle for the restoration of national rights; and calls on the British Government to officially recognise Lithuania as a self-governing republic.
