Glasgow University Rectorial Contest

EDM number 710 in 1989-90, proposed by Alex Salmond on 13/03/1990.

That this House congratulates Pat Kane and the Federation of Student Nationalists on their decisive victory in the Glasgow University rectorial election; looks forward to Mr Kane, in conjunction with the other working rectors and honourable Presidents, taking a leading role in the defence of Scottish educational values against the policies of the present Government; and commiserates with the honourable Member for Chesterfield on his defeat, but suggests that he places more emphasis on the national question if a candidate in any future rectorial contests in Scotland.
