General Hospital, Birmingham

EDM number 807 in 1989-90, proposed by Roy Hattersley on 28/03/1990.

That this House notes the views of the Birmingham public, and those of the West Midlands, expressed in overwhelming numbers, both in the petition presented to the Prime Minister and in the poll conducted by the Birmingham Evening Mail, demanding the retention of the General Hospital, Birmingham, as an integral part of the city's hospital service; expresses grave concern that the city centre should be left without a major hospital, fully modernised, capable of dealing with accidents and emergencies as well as providing all necessary out patient services; records its view that the proposed alternatives are unacceptable on grounds of location, inconvenience and transportation for hundreds of thousands of citizens; and calls upon the Secretary of State to determine these matters in accordance with the expressed views of the citizens of Birmingham.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
