Hearing Aid Service For Deaf Children
EDM number 951 in 1989-90, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 08/05/1990.
That this House deplores the practice by some local health authorities of making parents of deaf children insure commercial hearing aids prescribed and loaned to them under the National Health Service; notes the concern of the National Deaf Children's Society that this imposition threatens the service being offered to the 65,000 children in this country who use hearing aids; calls upon the Government to ensure that local health authorities do not exceed their legal powers in this way; and further calls for the Government to make clear its commitment to a free and first class hearing aid service for hearing impaired children.
