The Un And The Rt Honourable Member For Finchley

EDM number 1007 in 1990-91, proposed by Jimmy Wray on 20/06/1991.

That, although the usual practices in the United Nations make it difficult for the Right honourable Member for Finchley to become their Secretary General, this House is astonished that she would be considered for such a post; believes the United Nations' aims are the keeping of international peace, racial, political and religious tolerance and harmony and respect for the most needy and vulnerable social groups, is sadly aware these are values which she can hardly be associated with; sees her new proposals for an association between the European Community, Eastern Europe and the United States of America as a typical example of her incapacity to help in the construction of a world free from power domination and of her inability to understand that international progress must be based upon negotiation and respect for the sovereignty of all nation states, not just for the nations of the North; remembers her embarrassing disregard for the feelings and opinions of Commonwealth countries; and hopes she soon realises her time has passed and that the world goes on.
