Killings In Sri Lanka

EDM number 1028 in 1990-91, proposed by Dafydd Elis Thomas on 25/06/1991.

That this House condemns the recent suicide attack in Colombo, in which more than 20 people were killed, many of them school-children; is equally appalled by the earlier massacre of hundreds of Tamils in the north-east of the island, where many of those killed were women and children; expresses its grave concern about this recent resurgence of violence in Sri Lanka following the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi; recognises the danger of further escalation, reaching the horror and destruction that dominated Sri Lanka before the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord, struck between Rajiv Gandhi and President Jayewardene of Sri Lanka; and calls for immediate and unconditional negotiations on equal terms to achieve a viable political solution in the Singhalese-Tamil conflict, and to end the killings.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
