Abduction And Murder In El Salvador

EDM number 1118 in 1990-91, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 11/07/1991.

That this House believes that the peace talks cannot succeed if there is a resumption of the abductions and killings which have damaged the search for democracy, justice, peace and prosperity in El Salvador; calls on the government and military leaders of El Salvador to take effective steps to restore to his home Mr Bartolome Umana de Paz, Head of the Department of Science and Humanities at the University of El Salvador in Vicente and a Democratic Convergence candidate in the March legislative elections; and reminds the United States government of its power to require constant co-operation from the government and military leaders of El Salvador on the path away from the destructive toleration of the killers of Archbishop Romero, of the Jesuits with their household staff at the Central American University and of the thousands of other victims of the politics of murder.
