Veal Production

EDM number 1154 in 1990-91, proposed by Ron Davies on 17/07/1991.

That this House welcomes the RSPCA's campaign to draw attention to the conditions under which veal calves are reared abroad; recognises that as veal crate production has been banned in the United Kingdom it is quite inappropriate for calves to be exported for rearing under such conditions in other countries and for veal from crated animals to be imported into the United Kingdom; urges Her Majesty's Government to press most forcefully for an EC ban on veal crate systems; and encourages all British consumers of veal to insist on a British product, to stimulate restaurants, caterers and retailers to boycott imported veal produced under unacceptable conditions.
