Spanish Abbatoirs

EDM number 1155 in 1990-91, proposed by Ron Davies on 17/07/1991.

That this House commends Compassion in World Farming for its expose of conditions in Spanish abattoirs; recognises that this has highlighted the need for agreed and enforced EC-wide standards of humane slaughter of food animals; believes that all food animals should be slaughtered as close as possible to the point of production; and urges the United Kingdom Government to ensure the full and effective embargo on the live export of food animals to Spain.
