UK Assistance To The Referendum In The Western Sahara

EDM number 1215 in 1990-91, proposed by David Steel on 25/07/1991.

That this House welcomes the success of the United Nations Secretary General's representative on the Western Sahara, the projected ceasefire of 6th September, the exchange of prisoners of war on 14th September, the transfer of refugees in November and the subsequent holding of a referendum among the Saharawi people at the turn of the year; and calls on Her Majesty's Government both to give assistance of personnel where requested to these options and any other relevant assistance to ensure that this long-standing conflict is successfully concluded on the basis of self-determination of the Saharawi people.
