Emergency Food Aid For Mozambique

That this House notes with concern the continuing conflict throughout Mozambique, which has prevented two million internally displaced people from planting crops, leaving them reliant on emergency food aid; commends the efforts of Oxfam and Comic Relief in mounting an airlift to move food and blankets worth ú0.75 million over a three month period; condemns the Overseas Development Administration's refusal to provide funding of ú0.25 million required for the third month of the airlift; recognises that such parsimony is perfectly consistent with the Government's reduction in overseas development aid to a record low of only 0.27 per cent. of gross national product in 1990, but nevertheless urges a reconsideration of its willingness to assist in alleviating the desperate plight of the people of Mozambique.
