European Assistance For Cardiff And South Glamorgan

EDM number 1260 in 1990-91, proposed by Alun Michael on 16/10/1991.

That this House notes with concern the rise in unemployment in many parts of Wales and the continuing impact on constituencies in the Valleys and in the city, town and rural areas which have suffered great economic and social damage over the past 12 years; notes that the Cardiff Central constituency at 15.1 per cent. has the highest unemploymennt in any Welsh constituency in the Autumn 1991 figures and that Cardiff West and Cardiff South and Penarth are also in the top ten; and therefore calls on the Government to support the case being made out by Councillor Jon Owen Jones, Chairman of the Economic Development Committee of Cardiff City Council, and Wayne David, M.E.P. for the European Commission, to recognize that Cardiff and South Glamorgan require continued assistance under Objective II of the E.R.D.F.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
